| InTechnology enters virtual world |

With the growing interest in virtualisation, managed service specialist InTechnology has formalised its offering in this arena with the launch of Managed Virtual Server (MVS). MVS is designed as a highly cost-effective alternative to in-house projects, with clients benefitting from the fact that they can layer several virtual servers onto a single physical one, thus reducing infrastructure, hosting and power costs. With InTechnology running and supporting the virtual server, clients can also focus resources purely on the application rather than the hardware and associated maintenance. In addition, data can be automatically backed up or replicated across InTechnology’s two data centres. Contracts are completely flexible and based on a ‘pay only for what you use’ model – durations can be as short as one month. MVS is aimed at two main markets: first, the end user, who might opt for the virtual server approach for primary or secondary systems, for use as a temporary development box or test-bed, or for applications that they want to run centrally from their network. Secondly, the IT vendor, who could place their software on a virtual server and leverage the low costs, data centre security and fast communications to offer it out on a Software as a Service (SaaS) basis. Richard Quine, Director of Product Management, comments: “With virtualisation rapidly gaining ground in legal, MVS is a useful option for those wishing to take advantage of the technology but less keen on investing time, money and resources in in-house projects. It can also be delivered instantly, so there’s no time lag between instruction and availability, and can be terminated at any time the client chooses. MVS is about bringing extra flexibility and capability to the enterprise with the minimum of fuss and cost.” |
