eMag Solutions Enjoys Record Growth in 2008 Print

28% Growth and Record Profits for the Tape Restoration Specialists.

CARDIFF - February 2009 – eMag Solutions, a global provider of tape restoration and eDiscovery services to the legal market, has reported record 28% growth for 2008.  Largely due to the increase in demand for its cost-reducing non-native tape restoration services this is the third consecutive year of such growth for the UK business.

The non-native technology, pioneered by eMag Solutions, means that clients can directly access information stored on backup tapes without having any of the original software, hardware, infrastructure or skills present when the tapes when the information was written to the tape.  Additionally this technology means that certain files – such as email – can be accessed directly from tape without needing to restore the whole content.  The time and cost that this can remove from a case requiring access to tape based information can be significant.

During 2008 this technology was used by over 40 of the worlds leading companies to support projects in 18 different countries.  Much of this work was done on-site by eMag Solutions using purpose built rapid-deployment restore systems that mean tapes can be restored – in large volumes – virtually anywhere in the world.  In particular these systems are becoming commonly used to overcome hurdles presented by the various Data Privacy laws prevailing in European countries.  Within 48 hours of a request, eMag Solutions can be in-country restoring and processing data for review, overcoming the problems that would otherwise be present if data had to be moved.

Highlights for 2008 included:

  • Achieving ISO/IEC 27001:2005 Accreditation in both UK and US offices
  • Doubling the UK Disk Forensic Analysis and Collection capability
  • Extending non-native restoration support to over 1800 different tape formats
  • Adding support for 5 more legacy eMail formats to restoration engine
  • Significantly increasing the scalability of the UK tape processing centre
  • Providing rapid-deployment systems for tape restoration anywhere in the world

“eMag saw a significant increase in business in 2008 largely driven by the recognition that non-native restoration offers Law-Firms and in-house Counsel much greater flexibility and increased speed when data is required off backup tapes” said Mike Davies, eMag Solutions Managing Director. “People have started to recognise that there is no need to run up huge bills when restoring tape and that having ability to target just tapes that are likely to hold relevant information can significantly reduce the time and cost of restoration projects.  The recent ruling in the Digicel case will focus more attention on tape and the knowledge that eMag can access data quickly and cost effectively is going to prevent a lot of premature grey hair”
